Who is the conference for?

McKinney-Vento Liaisons, other school employees who support students experiencing homelessness, and community partners. We look forward to welcoming you and partnering with you!

Where will the conference be held?

The conference will take place (rain or shine! or snow!) at the Hotel Madison (Shenandoah Valley Conference Center) in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

What are topics that will be covered in sessions?

The planning committee is still actively putting together the schedule, and you should see topics that will be covered to include:

  • McKinney-Vento 101 Training

  • Poverty Simulation

  • Attendance

  • CBO initiatives – have a sustainability focus

  • Advocating for our students with school discipline teams

  • Mental Health (OBHW resources)

  • Transportation – vehicles since ARP

  • Early Childhood

  • ChildTrends – results of evaluation project

  • Rural and less resourced small communities' strategies

  • Human Trafficking

  • Identification/marketing tools, Awareness activities

  • Training school staff

  • Unaccompanied Homeless Youth, transition/FAFSA – turning 18 and responsibilities

  • LGBTQ+ 

  • Family Engagement Activities

Is there a cost to attend?

Yes.  The costs are listed below:
Conference Registration: $275 per person

What happens when registration is full?

We will have a waitlist once registration is full. Please email mcbuffkin@wm.edu to be added to the list. (We were able to include all individuals on the waitlist at the 2022 and 2023 conferences!)

Will conference attendees receive professional development credit?

Yes! We will take attendance at all general and breakout sessions and will send professional development certificates to attendees within one month of the conference ending.
